While Paola Pinedo García worked in communications at a medical sciences university, she still felt nostalgic for her previous field--journalism.

"My days as a foreign press correspondent--writing briefing notes, reports, articles and interviews on current events in my country--were behind me," writes Pinedo in her entry in IJNet's storytelling contest. "I missed seeing my name and my stories published in a newspaper or magazine; the coverage of the most important and unexpected events."

Pinedo decided it was time for a change, and took a week off from her job to explore the possibilities. That's when she discovered an IJNet announcement for a foreign correspondent position with Washington, D.C.-based infosurhoy.com. She received a response just a few days later.

She interviewed for the job and got hired. She has been writing for the site since January. Pinedo also works as a journalism professor at Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia.

IJNet gave her "the opportunity to return to real journalism, which makes you feel proud of what you do, which reminds you that you are not wrong about your calling," Pinedo writes.
