Film festival on human rights

Deadline: Sept. 1, 2019

Filmmakers from across the world can participate in the One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival, which is organized by People in Need, a Czech nonprofit organization. The event will take place March 5 to 14, 2020 in Prague. Click here for more information.

Fellowship focuses on internet and society

Deadline: Sept. 2, 2019

Researchers who focus on internet issues can apply for the Internet and Society Fellowship in Berlin from The Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society. The fellowship, beginning in 2020, lasts three to 12 months. A limited number of travel grants and visa subsidies are available. Click here to learn more.

IWMF's fund for women journalists

Deadline: Sept. 3, 2019

The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) is accepting applications for the Howard G. Buffett Fund, which aims to support women journalists of all nationalities in their projects and endeavors that focus on underreported global issues. Deadline: Sept. 15, 2019

The United Nations Correspondents Association (UNCA) is accepting written and electronic works for a U.N. coverage contest that consists of three awards: print and online, broadcast and climate change. Winners receive cash prizes. Click here for more information.

Journalism contest on European cooperation

Deadline: Sept. 15, 2019

The Eurasian Creative Guild is organizing a journalism contest focusing on "Great Eurasia: successes and problems of regional cooperation." Works in Russian and English are accepted, and winners will receive a cash prize. Click here to learn more.

Grants fund investigative journalism

Fellowships for writers at New York Public Library

Deadline: Sept. 27, 2019

The New York Public Library's Cullman Center will select 15 fellows who are working on book projects for a nine-month term at the library, from September 2020 through May 2021. Nieman Foundation fellowships

Deadline: Sept. 27, 2019

The Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard offers short-term visiting fellowships for research projects to advance journalism, which can include topics like programming, design and financial strategies.
