Photography contest focused on human rights, anti-corruption

Deadline: Nov. 1, 2019

The Allard Prize Photography Competition recognizes photographic excellence that focuses on themes of courage and leadership in combating corruption, especially through promoting transparency, accountability and the Rule of Law, and of human rights and/or anti-corruption generally. Winners receive a cash prize. Learn more here

Fellowship for women to report on the Mexico-Guatemala border

Deadline: Nov. 12, 2019

Women-identifying journalists can apply for a fellowship to travel to the Mexico-Guatemala border as part of the International Women’s Media Foundation’s (IWMF) Adelante reporting initiative. Fellows also receive a Hostile Environment and First Aid Training (HEFAT). Click here for more information. 

Residency program in Italy for scholars, journalists and more

Deadline: Nov. 15, 2019

Leaders in journalism and other disciplines are invited to apply for the Bellagio Residency Program in 2020 and early 2021 in Italy, sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation. Fellowships generally last four weeks, and are an opportunity to establish connections and solve complex issues. Learn more about the residency program here

Fellowship for artistic journalism

Deadline: Nov. 15, 2019

Journalists interested in integrating creative practices can apply for a yearlong fellowship from ArtsEverywhere. Fellows receive US$11,299 for travel, equipment and other costs. For more information, click here.

Deadline: Nov. 17, 2019

Journalists incorporating social research methods in their reporting are invited to apply for the Philip Meyer Journalism Award from the National Institute for Computer-Assisted Reporting and others. Winners receive cash prizes. Click here for more information. 

Innovative and interactive storytelling competition

Deadline: Nov. 22, 2019

Students, bloggers, artists and writers can submit their innovative and interactive stories to the New Media Writing Prize from the Media School at Bournemouth University. It could be a short story, novel, documentary or more. Learn more here.

Photography contest from Smithsonian Magazine

Deadline: Nov. 30, 2019

Professional and amateur photographers can submit photos to Smithsonian Magazine’s annual photo contest in the following categories: the natural world, travel, people, the American experience, altered images and mobile photos. Winners receive cash prizes. More information is available here.
