Journalists who cover human rights, social justice and democracy issues can apply for the 2025 Vladimir Herzog Journalism Prize for Amnesty and Human Rights.

The award honors the memory of Vladimir Herzog, a Brazilian journalist who was tortured and killed in October 1975, during the military regime in Brazil.

The prize, awarded by a committee of institutions, is open to professional journalists, who can compete individually or in teams.

The categories are arts (illustrations, editorial cartoons, caricatures and comic strips), photography, video, text, audio, multimedia and non-fiction book. Winners will receive a trophy.

Entries must have been published or broadcast between July 21, 2024 and June 10, 2025, except for the non-fiction book category, where works submitted must have been published between Jan. 1, 2024 and Dec. 31, 2024.

Marking the 50 years of Herzog's killing, this year's award has a special category: Democracy Advocacy. Journalists competing in this category can submit works published or broadcast between Jan. 8, 2023 through Sept. 23, 2025.

The deadline to apply for the main categories is June 10. Submissions for the special category end on Sept. 23.
