Human rights film festival

Deadline: September 1, 2024

Filmmakers can apply now for People in Need’s One World International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival, which will take place from March 12 to 20, 2025 in Prague, Czechia. Films not in English should include English subtitles. 

Fact-checking grants

Deadline: September 3, 2024

The International Fact-Checking Network at the Poynter Institute is seeking fact-checking organizations for the Global Fact Check Fund, which offers grants to support third-party organizations in strengthening fact-checking organizations’ capabilities.

Conference fellowship

Deadline: September 9, 2024

Journalists, students and educators of color are eligible to apply for Investigative Reporters and Editors’ (IRE) fellowships and scholarships to attend AccessFest 2024. Fellows will receive a one-year IRE membership/renewal and complimentary conference registration.

Collegiate fellowship

Deadline: September 10, 2024

The College of Literature, Science and the Arts at the University of Michigan is offering the LSA Collegiate Fellowship, in which early-career journalists and media scholars will devote their time to pursuing independent research and more. This program provides a starting salary of US$66,000, benefits and more.

Literary residency program

Deadline: September 10, 2024

Journalists and visual artists can apply now for the MacDowell Colony, a residency program in Peterborough, New Hampshire, that provides time and space for participants to work on long-form projects. The program offers a stipend and travel reimbursements. 

Journalism contest

Deadline: September 15, 2024 

The Fetisov Journalism Awards aims to recognize journalists for their contributions to the promotion of universal human values and extraordinary heroism. Works must have been published between June 1, 2023, and May 31, 2024. Entries not in English must include an English translation.

Disinformation Summit

Deadline: September 18, 2024

Journalists, fact-checkers, researchers, students and activists can register now for the Inter American Press Association, Bolivia’s Journalism Foundation and Proyecto Desconfio’s Summit on Disinformation. This free event will spotlight efforts in strengthening democracy against disinformation, in media strategies to counter misleading narratives and more. 

Book fellowship

Deadline: September 27, 2024

The New York Public Library’s Cullman Center is offering a nine-month fellowship for journalists, writers and others working on a book project. Fellows will work on their own projects and engage in an ongoing exchange of ideas with the Center. A stipend, computer and more are provided.
