Scholarships to attend environmental, health conference Deadline June 3
Journalists can apply for a scholarship to attend the Conference of the International Association for Ecology and Health (Ecohealth) in Montreal, Canada. The World Federation of Science Journalists is offering eight scholarships that will cover travel costs to Montreal, four nights' accommodation and visa and conference registration fees. Daniel Pearl investigative reporting fellowship Deadline June 7
Journalists ages 22 to 38 can apply for a fellowship. Moment magazine organizes the Daniel Pearl Investigative Journalism Initiative to encourage reporters to write in-depth stories about deeply ingrained prejudices. Apart from providing the selected fellow with US$5,000 to complete the project, the initiative will offer mentoring from experienced journalists. Click here for more information.
Online Journalism Awards Deadline June 13
The Online News Association (ONA) is accepting entries for the 2014 Online Journalism Awards recognizing excellence in digital reporting, open to online journalists, digital news organizations and students worldwide. Of the 33 awards, 10 offer a total of US$52,500 in prize money, including $15,000 for two new awards for excellence in data journalism. Awards will be given in September at the Online News Association Conference & Awards Banquet in Chicago. Click here for more information.
Fellowship for covering the Amazon Deadline June 15
Environmental journalists can apply for a fellowship worth up to US$30,000 to cover business practices in the Amazon. Mongabay.org seeks applications for its Special Reporting Initiative (SRI) Program. Fellows will examine the impacts of development on the rain forest and traditional communities who live there. National Geographic Traveler photo contest Deadline June 30
Photographers worldwide can submit digital photos to the National Geographic Traveler photo contest. The contest features prizes and gift certificates including an eight-day National Geographic Expedition to Alaska for two, a five-day National Geographic Photography Workshop, and a six-day cruise on a Maine windjammer schooner for two. Thomson Reuters seminar on global security coverage Deadline June 30
Journalists worldwide who are fluent in English can apply for funding to attend a three-day seminar in London. TrustMedia, a Thomson Reuters Foundation Service, encourages journalists to apply for its Global Security Seminar 2014. Topics will include Russia's territorial ambitions, terrorism in East Africa, continuing turmoil in the Middle East and cybersecurity. Participants from countries with ongoing security challenges are particularly encouraged to apply, including those from Africa, the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Click here for more information.
