2014 was a year for experimentation in the journalism world.

Robert Hernandez, an associate professor at the University of Southern California, began to explore the journalistic potential behind Yik Yak, an anonymous app popularized on college campuses.

Digital media professor and writer Pablo Martín Fernández kept tabs on successful business model experiments as newsrooms explored branded content and crowdfunding.

And Pattie Reaves, a user experience and community manager at the Bangor Daily News (BDN) in Maine, pointed out how the journalism world finally figured out how to create worthwhile tools for readers.

Despite progress made throughout the past year, there’s still plenty to accomplish in journalism. IJNet posed questions to six people in the field about their reflections on 2014 and how we can continue to advance. Just click on the person’s photo to see his or her responses.
