Media organizations and journalism schools can apply for grants for training and capacity building on biodiversity issues.

The Earth Journalism Network (EJN) organizes the Biodiversity Media Grant opportunity to increase the capacity of media to cover critical issues of conservation and biodiversity.

Three to four organizations will be awarded with grants of EUR10,000 (US$10,404) to EUR12,000 (US$12,485) each.

Projects funded by this grant should build public awareness of the threats to biodiversity and highlight conservation solutions by spreading quality news and information. Projects may also build the capacity of journalists and communicators to report on threats to biodiversity and on conservation solutions.

For this round, EJN is particularly interested in proposals that focus on: OECMs and other alternatives to protected areas that contribute to the Global Biodiversity Framework’s 30x30 target; nature-based solutions that support biodiversity as well as other sustainability goals; Digital Sequence Information (DSI) and benefit sharing of genetic resources; and unintended harmful effects of conservation measures.

Media organizations in countries classified as either low- or middle-income by the World Bank are eligible to apply for this opportunity.

EJN is especially interested in projects that focus on conservation in biodiversity rich regions of the world, or projects in countries facing unprecedented biodiversity loss.

The deadline is March 30.
