Grants for coronavirus reporting collaborations

The Pulitzer Center has launched the Coronavirus News Collaboration Challenge. Proposals must involve a strategic and concerted effort by multiple journalists and/or newsrooms to pursue a reporting project together, leveraging resources, expertise and publication platforms. Learn more.
Flash grants for fact-checkers fighting coronavirus misinformation
Deadline: April 1, 2020
The International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) and Facebook have launched flash grants for fact-checkers fighting coronavirus misinformation. Proposal topics vary but must emphasize amplify fact-checking, increase the reach and impact of the #CoronaVirusFactsAlliance and advance the fight against health misinformation related to COVID-19. Awards for environmental reporting
Deadline: April 1, 2020
The Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ) is accepting submissions for its annual recognition of excellence in environmental reporting. The awards honor journalists in 10 categories, including feature story, investigative reporting, explanatory reporting and book. International journalists are encouraged to enter, but they must include an English translation with their entry. Learn more.
Webinar on journalists’ mental health
Deadline: April 2, 2020 at 1:00-2:00 p.m. EDT
Natural disasters, mass shootings, war crimes and now a global pandemic. Journalists are often on the frontlines, reporting on some of the world’s most critical events, which can take a toll on your mental health. In a one-hour webinar from IJNet, experts will offer a briefing on trauma and journalism, introducing best practices in coverage and the basics of self-care and collegial support. Learn more.
Nonfiction media fellowship

Journalists and filmmakers interested in telling stories from developing countries can apply for One World Media’s fellowship. The program is open to nonfiction media across all platforms: film, print, audio, photojournalism and multimedia. Twenty fellows will be selected this year, including 10 applicants from anywhere in the world and 10 from Africa. Learn more.
Short film competition highlights water issues
Deadline: April 2, 2020
The We Are Water Foundation seeks short films for the We Art Water Film Festival. Works must raise awareness of water problems around the world. This year's theme is the climate crisis. Films may be in any language but must include subtitles in English. Learn more.
International journalism award
Deadline: April 5, 2020
The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) has decided to reopen nominations for the 2020 ICFJ Knight International Journalism Award in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. The awards are seeking nominees whose pioneering coverage or media innovations around COVID-19 have excelled and had a tremendous impact. Pulitzer grant for crisis reporting
Deadline: April 10, 2020
The Persephone Miel Fellowship, overseen by the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, in consultation with Internews, will fund a reporting project for journalists who reside outside the U.S. that focuses on a global crisis underreported in the mainstream American media. The fellowships are open to journalists, writers, photographers, radio producers or filmmakers interested in reporting from their home country. Learn more.
Literary residency program
Deadline: April 15, 2020
Journalists and visual artists can apply for the MacDowell Colony’s residency program in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Journalists with professional standing in their fields, as well as emerging journalists, are eligible. Writers, visual artists, composers, filmmakers, playwrights, interdisciplinary artists and architects from the U.S. and abroad attend. Learn more.
Ocean science journalism fellowship

The Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is accepting applications for its journalism fellowship program. The program is designed to introduce science journalists to oceanography and ocean engineering through seminars, laboratory visits and brief field expeditions.
