Reporting fellowships for women journalists Deadline: Nov. 6
Organized by the International Women’s Media Foundation, the fellowship is part of Adelante, a five-year program that aims to amplify the voices of women journalists. The next group of fellows will travel Feb. 1 to Feb. 16, first stopping in Mexico City for an orientation and security training before splitting into two groups of six to travel to Honduras and Guatemala, respectively. Reuters offers photojournalism grants Deadline: Nov. 10
Reuters is offering grants to photojournalists and students who need help to complete a photo assignment. Eight winners will receive US$5,000 and have their photographs featured on Reuters News platforms. Applicants must submit a CV, cover letter and a portfolio featuring 35 to 50 pictures. UN editorial cartoon contest Deadline: Nov. 15
Professionals worldwide can submit their cartoons for a chance to win a prize from the United Nations’ Ranan Lurie Political Cartoons Awards. Entries should be political cartoons published between Sept. 1, 2016, and Oct. 15, 2017, and reflect UN principles, like importance of human dignity, respect among nations and economic and environmental responsibilities to one another. Stanford democracy fellowship Deadline: Nov. 15
Journalists and activists involved in their country’s economic and political development can apply for the Draper Hills Summer Fellowship on Democracy and Development, held July 15 to Aug. 3 at Stanford University in California. A three-week program, the fellowship provides networking, collaboration and academic training to midcareer professionals in democracy and development from all over the world. Environmental reporting grants Deadline: Nov. 15
Reporters struggling financially to put together an environmental news story or portfolio are invited to apply for a grant from the Society of Environmental Journalists. The project proposal should involve environmental issues of some kind. The grant covers project-related travel, training, research, environmental testing and other direct expenses. Short-term fellowship on digital tools Deadline: Nov. 19
The Kiplinger Program in Public Affairs Journalism at Ohio State University is offering short-term fellowships for experienced journalist to better learn new online and digital tools. The 2018 program will take place April 16 to 20 and includes lodging and most meals. Limited scholarships are also available to help cover travel costs for international participants. Middle East reporting fellowship Deadline: Nov. 26
Journalists interested in reporting from the Middle East on stories under-covered from mainstream media can apply for a US$10,000 fellowship from the Ground Truth Project, in partnership with the James W. Foley Legacy Foundation. The fellowship includes a stipend, budget, medical insurance and field reporting expenses, as well as mentoring and editorial support. For more information, click here.
Human rights film festival Nov. 30
The Docudays UA International Human Rights Documentary Film Festival seeks entries to its 2018 event. Organized by the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, the event will take place March 23 to 30 in Kiev, Ukraine. Films must have been produced in 2016 and 2017.
