Journalists looking to better their writing skills can take advantage of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) journalism resource Web site online. The UIL is a non-profit leadership and guidance organization created by the University of Texas at Austin that supervises contests that assist students.
Resources are made available by former academic director Bobby Hawthorne and assistant academic director Jeanne Acton. Tips are made available for many topics, including story structure, writing different types of articles, reporting in the field and ethical decisions.
The resources are available for use in both academic and professional settings.
