News fellowship for HBCU students [US]

Recent journalism graduates or mid-career alumni of an Historically Black College or University (HBCU) are eligible for a fellowship.

The 19th is accepting applications for the Frances Ellen Watkins Harper Fellowship, named in honor of the “Mother of African American journalism.” 

Five fellows will be selected for the yearlong fellowship, which includes three editorial fellows, one audience engagement fellow and one product and technology fellow.

The fellowship begins in October and fellows will receive on-the-job training, mentorship and development opportunities. 

Fellows will receive a salary of US$70,000 to US$75,000 depending on the fellowship track they are selected for.

The application deadline is May 15.
