Africa Science Journalism Awards open [Africa]

African science journalists can enter a contest and compete for cash prizes.

The Science for Africa Foundation (SFA Foundation), with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, launches the Africa Science Journalism Awards (ASJA). The contest seeks to uplift credible health, science and development reporting. 

The awards will be given to African journalists whose stories cover the SFA Foundation’s thematic focus areas of health, climate change and environment, and agriculture.

Stories published between January 2024 and June 30, 2025 can be submitted in the following categories: best story; early career journalist; innovator award for editors; and science champion.

Prizes range from US$1,500 to US$2,000.

The deadline is July 4.
