Awards for data journalism projects

The Sigma Awards, launched by Aron Pilhofer (Temple University) and Reginald Chua (Reuters) will recognize projects from newsrooms of all sizes around the world. Winning teams will participate in the International Journalism Festival in April in Perugia, Italy. Learn more.
Grants to support investigative journalism
Deadline: February 3, 2020
The Fund for Investigative Journalism will give grants up to US$10,000 to support projects that break new ground and expose wrongdoing. Proposals must come from U.S.-based reporters, or international journalists whose stories have a U.S. angle. Learn more.
Photo contest focused on discoveries
Deadline: February 4, 2020
Photographers around the world are invited to submit up to 10 photos that focus on a personal revelation, scientific and technical breakthrough or an idea that has led to social change to this contest from The World Photography Organisation and ZEISS lenses. Winners will receive prizes. Learn more.
Fellowship to support collaborative investigation on climate change

The Bertha Foundation is accepting candidates for the Bertha Challenge, which seeks to support collaborative investigations on one pressing social justice issue. This year, fellows will focus on the ways that profit and politics contribute to climate change. Learn more.
Awards recognizing underreported stories

The One World Media Awards honor underreported stories on social, political or cultural life in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Middle East and former Soviet republics. The contest is open to works from all media platforms and gendres. Learn more.

The UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize will recognize journalists, organizations or institutions that make a significant contribution to press freedom. Winners will receive cash prizes, and be recognized during the World Press Freedom Day ceremony in the Netherlands. Learn more.
Reporting grants for women and non-binary journalists

The International Women’s Media Foundation is accepting applications for two grant opportunities. The first will support journalists telling the stories of women and girls as agents of change in developing countries, and the second will fund reporting on reproductive health in Latin America. Literary reporting grant
Deadline: February 19, 2020
The Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute of New York University will support an early-career nonfiction writer who wants to focus on a story that uncovers truths about the human condition. The winner will receive US$12,500, an NYU and full access to the NYU library. Learn more.
