French-speaking journalists in the Asia Pacific region can apply.
AFP seeks two journalists to join its French-speaking Asia-Pacific desk in Hong Kong, China and Seoul, South Korea. The reporters will start sometime between between September and December 2022.
The editors work either on the global copy edition ("desk shift") or only on the adaptation of the Asia-Pacific copy, with flexible hours and depending on the news ("Asia shift"). On the "desk shift," responsibilities include proofreading, translating, updating and validating the news of the French-speaking wire. The journalists will monitor French national news on social media and French news channels.
On the "Asia shift," responsibilities include producing original copy on the Asia-Pacific region, tailored to the needs of French-speaking clients, based on content produced in English, and participating in French-language coverage of countries in the region where AFP does not have a French-speaking correspondent (i.e. South Korea, the Philippines, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand).
Candidates must have excellent knowledge of English and Spanish (to monitor and translate Spanish-speaking copy during night hours in Latin America). Experience in an editing and/or production position is a plus.
