Investigative projects competition
Deadline: June 1, 2025
The DIG Awards are seeking to recognize filmmakers and audio storytellers who have produced investigative works. This year’s competition will also include a pitch category, in which applicants can submit work in the pre-production phase for the chance to win funding to complete their project.
Documentary film festival
Deadline: June 13, 2025
Documentarians can now submit their work to the Big Sky Film Institute for the chance to be featured at its 23rd annual film festival. Winners of the best feature, short, mini-doc and the Big Sky Award will receive cash prizes. Entry fees range from US$5 to US$50. Discounts are available.

Video competition
Deadline: June 15, 2025
The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the International Organization for Migration are accepting videos focused on migration, diversity, social inclusion and prevention of xenophobia for the PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival. Entries must be less than five minutes long, include English subtitles, and have been produced after Jan. 1, 2022.
Youth reporting award
Deadline: June 16, 2025
News outlets that collaborate with young people can be nominated for the Global Youth & News Media Prize’s 2025 Journalism Award. This year’s competition spotlights great youth collaborations that contribute to the survival of local news outlets. Self-nominations are welcomed.
Science fellowship
Deadline: June 17, 2025
The European Geosciences Union is accepting applications for its Science Journalism Fellowship, which gives journalists interested in covering research of Earth, planetary or space sciences the chance to follow geoscientists on location and develop an understanding of their research questions and more. Fellows will receive funding to cover expenses.
Investigative journalism fellowship
Deadline: June 18, 2025
Early-career journalists can apply now for Reuters and Durham University’s Sir Harry Evans Global Fellowship in Investigative Journalism. The fellow will be mentored by top investigative editors, have access to university academics and research resources, and receive a monthly salary.
Young news professionals award
Deadline: June 27, 2025
The International News Media Association is accepting applications and nominations for its 30 Under 30 Awards, which reward outstanding achievement and career potential among young professionals in the news media industry. Winners will receive global recognition, a certificate of recognition, a social media badge and more.
Film festival
Deadline: June 30, 2025
Filmmakers globally can submit their documentaries, feature films and animated films to the Almaty Indie Film Festival, which gives filmmakers the chance to present their work to an international audience and more. Entries must be in English or include English subtitles.
Environmental photography award
Deadline: June 30, 2025
The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards are seeking entries for their upcoming competition, which celebrates the hilarity of the natural world and highlights what needs to be done to protect it. The overall winner will receive a one-week safari in Kenya for two people with Alex Walker’s Serian, and other prizes.
Broadcasting contest
Deadline: June 30, 2025
Journalists, filmmakers and content creators can submit their work to the Association for International Broadcasting’s annual competition, which recognizes TV, video, digital, radio, audio and social media work. Entry fees start at GBP90.
