Print, online or broadcast journalists from the Middle East can compete for a prize.
The European Union seeks entries for the Samir Kassir Award for Freedom of the Press, worth EUR10,000 (US$10,900).
Journalists from Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates and Yemen are eligible to apply.
The competition features three categories: best opinion article, best investigative article and best audiovisual news report. Entries must have been published between March 16, 2024 and March 15, 2025.
The audiovisual news report must have been aired on a local or satellite television network or released on an online television network in one of the mentioned countries or in one of the European Union Member States.
Applicants can submit their works related to the rule of law, human rights, good governance, the fight against corruption, freedom of expression, democratic development or citizen participation.
The deadline is April 1.
