Data journalism competition

Deadline: February 1, 2021

Data journalists from around the world can enter The Sigma Awards, sponsored by the Google News Initiative. This year's competition will highlight the best data journalism done about the pandemic as well as other topics such as politics, sports and the environment. Winners will receive a cash prize. Investigative journalism grants

Deadline: February 8, 2021

The Fund for Investigative Journalism is seeking proposals for investigative projects that break new ground and expose wrongdoing in the public and private sectors. Selected investigations will receive up to US$10,000 in support. Proposals must come from U.S.-based reporters or journalists whose stories have a U.S. angle. Learn more here.

Environmental reporting workshop

Deadline: February 14, 2021

Journalists from all media who want to improve their skills in environmental reporting can apply for a virtual workshop from the Metcalf Institute. Participants will receive a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of research practice, climate science and more. Learn more here.

Mentorship program for disabled writers

Deadline: February 15, 2021

Disabled Writers is organizing a mentorship program to help emerging disabled writers gain professional experience and knowledge to work in journalism. The program is open to all English-speaking writers, and is limited by mentor availability. Learn more here. 

Competition for print, broadcast and film

Deadline: February 16, 2021

Journalists can submit works that have been printed, broadcast or screened either to the One World Media Awards. These awards honor underreported stories on social, political or cultural life in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Latin America, the Middle East and former Soviet republics. Learn more here.

Grant for literary reporting

Deadline: February 16, 2021

Early-career nonfiction writers who want to focus on a story that uncovers truths about the human condition can apply for funding from the Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute of New York University. Fellows will receive a stipend, research privileges and an office. Learn more here. 

Women’s international film festival

Deadline: February 25, 2021

Woman-identifying filmmakers are invited to participate in the Women Make Waves Int'l Film Festival Taiwan, which will take place in October 2021 in Taipei, Taiwan. Entries must have at least one woman director. Learn more here.
