Knight-VICE Innovators Fund Deadline: June 1, 2016

Journalists worldwide can apply for funding from the Knight-VICE Innovators Fund, which has a total of US$500,000 to go toward innovative journalism projects. Finalists will spend up to three months in New York, where they’ll work alongside VICE News staff and the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism. Travel and living expenses will be covered by a stipend. ONA journalism awards Deadline: June 3, 2016

Each year, the Online News Association (ONA)’s Online Journalism Awards are open to journalists, digital news organizations and students who excel in digital reporting. Several categories are open, including breaking news, planned news/events, explanatory reporting, topical reporting and more. Twelve awards offer a total of US$53,500 in prize money, including US$15,000 for two investigative data journalism awards. For more information, click here.

Bayeux-Calvados Award for War Correspondents Deadline: June 6, 2016

The Bayeux-Calvados Award for War Correspondents is seeking the best coverage of conflict situations or news events relating to the fight for freedom and democracy from around the globe. Categories include young reporters, long and short-form TV, radio, print, online and photojournalism. Each category winner will receive cash prizes ranging from EUR3,000 (US$3,411) to EUR7,000 (US$7,959). For more information, click here.

Bluhm/Helfand Social Innovation Fellowship Deadline: June 7, 2016

The Bluhm/Helfand Social Innovation Fellowship, in collaboration with Chicago Ideas Week, allows journalists with business endeavors that address social needs to bring these endeavors to life. Fellows will receive community support, exposure to business leaders and US$10,000 for their business endeavor. Additionally, they’ll take an all-expenses-paid trip to Chicago for Chicago Ideas Week on Oct. 17 to 23. For more information, click here.

Fund for Environmental Journalism grants Deadline June 15, 2016

Environmental journalists can get up to US$5,000 in story funding from the Society of Environmental Journalists (SEJ)’ Fund for Environmental Journalism. Grants cover project-related travel, training, research materials, environmental testing and other direct expenses. Story proposals should focus on the politics and economics of renewable energy in the U.S. For more information, click here.

Foreign Policy Interrupted fellowship Deadline: June 27, 2016

Women academics, entrepreneurs, journalists, students and business professionals ages 25 and older can expand their foreign policy repertoire with Foreign Policy Interrupted's fellowship program. The program consists of a six-week online module, followed by a nonresident “externship” with a major media outlet that lasts one to three months. For more information, click here.

Portenier Human Rights Bursary Deadline: June 30, 2016

Journalists and documentary-makers who focus on human rights abuses can apply for funding from the Forum Freelance Fund’s Portenier Human Rights Bursary. The winner will receive up to CAD3,000 (US$2,335) for hazardous environment training from one of several approved course providers. For more information, click here.
