Free Press Awards Deadline: August 1, 2017
Free Press Unlimited is accepting nominations for the Free Press Awards, to honor journalists who take risks in order to provide information to the public, and pave the way for equality and justice. The winners receive media scholarships of EUR15,000 (US$16,344). For more information, click here.
Kavli Science Journalism Awards Deadline: August 1, 2017
Open to any science journalists who have published, broadcast, or posted in the past year, these awards, organized by the Kavli Foundation, seek to recognize outstanding reporting in the fields of science and engineering. Winners for each category will receive cash prizes from US$3,500 to US$5,000, as well as an opportunity to attend the award ceremony in Austin, Texas. For more information, click here.
Open Society Foundations scholarships Deadline: August 1, 2017
Those interested in drug policy and human rights can apply for a full scholarship to attend the Human Rights and Drug Policy Workshop in Hong Kong in October. The conference will be held at the Center for Criminology at the University of Hong Kong, and scholarships are available to cover participants’ expenses. For more information, click here.
Early Childhood Development Reporting Fellowship Deadline: August 6, 2017
This fellowship is open to journalists covering children’s health and development in Bangladesh, Brazil, India, Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania. The International Center for Journalists and the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation are supporting this yearlong fellowship that includes training, mentoring and financial support to journalists covering these issues. Thomson Foundation Young Journalist Award Deadline: August 18, 2017

UN Global Youth Video Competition on Climate Change Deadline: August 18, 2017
This competition is open to anyone between the ages of 18 and 35, who submit a video about an action to combat climate change. The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC), the UNDP/GEF Small Grant Program and tve are organizing the competition, and winners will win a trip to the Conference to the Parties to the UNFCCC (COP23) in Bonn, Germany, to work as youth reporters. Alfred Friendly Press Partners Fellowship Deadline: August 31, 2017
This fellowship is open to print, broadcast and online journalists from developing countries who would like the opportunity to work in an American newsroom. The program, sponsored by the Alfred Friendly Press Partners, will run from mid-March 2018 through September 2018. Fellows must be between the ages of 25 and 35 and have experience in journalism.
