Public policy fellowship
Deadline: October 1, 2024
Journalists, scholars and public officials can apply now for the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars’ nine-month residential fellowship program in Washington. Fellows will conduct research, interact with policymakers and more. The fellowship includes a US$90,000 stipend.
Elevate scholarships
Deadline: October 4, 2024
The International News Media Association and the Google News Initiative are accepting applications for their Elevate Scholarships, designed to elevate individuals belonging to historically underrepresented groups who are below senior management levels. Early to mid-career journalists and other media professionals are eligible to apply.

Travel photography contest
Deadline: October 6, 2024
Professional and amateur photographers can compete for the Travel Photography of the Year Awards. Winners will receive cash prizes and sponsors’ gifts. Entry fees vary from GBP12 to GBP100, and discounts are available for multiple entries.
Virtual communications conference
Deadline: October 7, 2024
The Cat Writers’ Association is hosting its 30th Annual Communications Conference, which will cover topics on communicating with animals, self-publishing, freelancing and more. This virtual conference will be held on Oct. 18 to 19. The registration fee is US$75 for members and US$85 for non-members.
Social issues video contest
Deadline: October 10, 2024
Filmmakers and activists can submit videos that inspire activism, compassion and social transformation to the Social Impact Media Awards’ international documentary and educational media competition and showcase. Entries must have been completed between October 2023 and September 2024.
Scholarships for leadership program
Deadline: October 13, 2023
The Google News Initiative is sponsoring scholarships for underrepresented news leaders to attend the Columbia Journalism School’s 2025 Sulzberger Executive Leadership Program. Scholarships will cover tuition and travel costs to New York City.
Environmental photo competition
Deadline: October 14, 2024
Professional and amateur photographers can apply now for the Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry’s Photo Competition, which recognizes photos that showcase the importance of biodiversity, mitigating climate change and more. Winners will receive cash prizes.
Short film festival
Deadline: October 18, 2024
The Knowmad Institut and the North Luzon Cinema Guild are accepting entries for the Knowmad Short Film Festival. Professional and amateur filmmakers can submit films made after March 2023 and between five and 10 minutes long. Categories include: documentary, fiction, animation and vertical.
Labor migration contest
Deadline: October 31, 2024
Professional journalists and students can now submit articles or multimedia content to the International Labour Organization’s 2024 Global Media Competition on Labour Migration and Fair Recruitment. Entries must have been published between Oct. 31, 2023 and Oct. 31, 2024. Winners will be able to choose between a cash prize or a paid fellowship.
