Mongabay is expanding its coverage of environmental and conservation news in Africa, and is seeking a French editor to publish reporting on this beat. Journalists with three or more years of experience working in journalism, editorial or writing and exceptional fluency in French are eligible to apply.
Sports media contest
Deadline: November 4, 2023
Sports journalists can now submit their work to the International Sport Press Association’s 2023 Sport Media Awards. Entries must have been published or broadcasted between Nov. 5, 2022 and Nov. 4, 2023. Winners will receive cash prizes or a scholarship to attend a top international event.

International story competition
Deadline: November 5, 2023
The True Story Foundation and Reportagen Festival Bern are accepting submissions in nine languages for the True Story Award, which aims to provide recognition for exceptional written reports globally. Entries must be 3,000 to 17,000 words and published in print or online between Sept. 1, 2022 and Sept. 30, 2023.
Democracy fellowship
Deadline: November 6, 2023
Journalists who are interested in learning more about democracy and have working knowledge of English can apply now for the Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program, organized by the National Endowment for Democracy. Fellows will receive a monthly stipend for living expenses, plus health insurance and more.
Postgraduate scholarships
Deadline: November 7, 2023
The U.K’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and partner organizations are accepting applications for the Chevening Scholarship Program, which provides full or partial funding for full-time courses at the postgraduate level in any subject at any U.K. university. Applicants must have an excellent undergraduate academic track record, two to five years of professional experience and fluency in English.
Editing scholarships
Deadline: November 15, 2023
College juniors, seniors or graduate students interested in editing are eligible to apply for Aces: The Society for Editing’s Bill Walsh Scholarship and the ACES Education Fund Scholarship. Six scholarships will be awarded. Some winners will also be eligible for aid to attend the ACES conference.
Environmental reporting fellowship
Deadline: November 16, 2023
Internews’ Earth Journalism Network is launching a fellowship to enhance reporting on climate change, biodiversity, the ocean and more. Journalists from low- or middle-income countries can apply for a chance to receive mentorship, editorial support and stipends.
Global issues fellowship

Journalists covering politics or government agencies are eligible to apply for Ohio University's Kiplinger Program in Public Affairs Journalism’s fellowship program, which trains participants on how to cover the most pressing issues of our time. Fellows will receive immersive training, travel stipends and more.

The World Photography Organization is seeking entries from professional, amateur and young photographers for its annual Sony World Photography Awards. Winners will receive cash prizes, Sony photo equipment, a trophy and more.
Photojournalism program

Undergraduate and graduate students can apply now for Texas A&M University’s Program on Conflict and Development’s Students Media Grants Program, which focuses on the role hospitality and tourism plays in the mediation of conflict worldwide. Participants will spend two months documenting an issue through photography and associated written or verbal commentary that reflects the challenges faced by fragile and conflict-affected nations.
