The Global Shining Light Award, sponsored by the Global Investigative Journalism Network, awards a journalist, journalism team or media outlet that worked under threat, duress or difficult conditions. The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) is accepting applications for the Elizabeth Neuffer Fellowship. The selected journalist will spend an academic year in a tailored program with access to MIT's Center for International Studies and media outlets like The Boston Globe and The New York Times. The Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford is seeking abstracts of papers for presentation at its conference, "Negotiating Culture: integrating legacy and digital cultures in news media." The Thomson Reuters Foundation hosts the Kurt Schork Awards in International Journalism, honoring the work of freelance journalists and local reporters in developing countries or nations in transition who often otherwise receive little recognition. The awards feature two categories: freelance journalists covering international news and local reporters covering events in their home country or region.
