#IJNetLive webinar: Digital security for journalists

Posted on Apr 10, 2020 发表在 Digital Journalism

Crackdowns on press freedom across the globe have become more prevalent in recent years. Amid this increasingly hostile environment worldwide, and today in the face of the COVID-19 global pandemic, we’re ever more dependent on the internet to carry out our reporting and collaborate effectively. Making sure we’re doing so safely — for ourselves and our colleagues, as well for our sources — requires we stay up to date on the latest tools and best practices in digital security.

With technology constantly changing, we know that’s a challenge, so IJNet is here to help.

At 1:00-2:00 p.m. EDT on April 21, we will host a webinar on digital security. The panelists will include Rajan Kapoor, director of security at Dropbox; and Sergio Spagnuolo, former ICFJ former TruthBuzz Fellow and head of data journalism agency and consultancy Volt Data Lab.

Are your online accounts secure? Do you know how to ensure your communications with sources remain confidential? How can you collaborate remotely while keeping your data safe? Which video-conferencing platform should you be using as we all work remotely?

Kapoor and Spagnuolo will discuss the most pressing digital security concerns journalists are facing. They’ll offer practical tips on passwords and encryption, how to collaborate securely, and the tools, platforms and services we should turn to in order to carry out our most sensitive reporting. There will be ample time for Q&A.

Alongside the Global Health Crisis Reporting Forum, this webinar is part of our response to the changing environment journalists face in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will also kickstart more IJNet content on the topic — content that will be decided by you.
