U.S. citizens with undergraduate degrees can apply for this travel fellowship.

The Fulbright-National Geographic Digital Storytelling Fellowship, a joint venture of the U.S. State Department and the National Geographic Society, allows participants to spend an academic year traveling abroad and documenting stories.

Fellows will undertake an in-depth examination of a globally relevant issue and compare how that issue is experienced across borders. They will share their experiences using a variety of digital storytelling tools, including text, photography, video, audio, graphic illustrations and/or social media. Their stories will be published on a dedicated blog hosted by National Geographic.

For the 2022-2023 competition, the fellowship will accept proposals to undertake an in-depth examination of a globally relevant issue. The National Geographic Society’s focus areas are: oceans, land, wildlife, human history and cultures, and human ingenuity.

Fellows will be able to travel to any three countries where there are active Fulbright Programs.

The deadline to apply is Oct. 12.
