Journalists and other professionals can participate in this four-week course.

The Knight Center for Journalism in the Americas is hosting the Big Online Course (BOC) "Hands-on data journalism: techniques of analysis and visualization" May 31 to June 27.

Participants will get hands-on experience working with an example database about dogs along with a dataset of their own choosing. They will learn free tools and specific techniques to make it easier to produce data journalism stories.

The instructor is John Keefe, senior data and visuals editor for climate coverage at CNN.

Students do not need coding experience but should have basic familiarity with spreadsheets, such as Excel or Google Sheets.

Registration costs US$95 and is ongoing, but spots are limited.
