Journalists based in the Philippines who are interested in covering diversity, inclusion and LGBTIQ rights can apply for this training program in Manila.

Thomson Reuters Foundation is offering a new training opportunity for journalists, aiming to deepen subject matter expertise on issues surrounding diversity, inclusion and LGBTIQ+ reporting in the Philippines. The program is a part of HIVOS's Free To Be Me program, funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The in-person training will also cover the verification and protection of sources and digital skills, including how to create engaging social media content and videos.

The training will run from Nov. 28 to Dec. 1 and involve a blend of lively interactive sessions, expert briefings, and exercises, to sustain a highly practical, engaging and relevant training experience.

Twelve participants will be selected for the training and be given the opportunity to pitch a story and take part in a three-month mentoring scheme, culminating in the publication of a story on diversity, inclusion and LGBTIQ+ issues. Participants will receive a story grant of GBP300.

The application deadline is Nov. 15.
