Full-time print journalists and photographers can apply for a fellowship.

The Alicia Patterson Fellowships, sponsored by the Alicia Patterson Foundation (APF), aim to foster, promote and sustain the best traditions of journalism in the United States. The fellowships provide support for journalists engaged in rigorous, independent and skeptical work that will benefit the public.

Grants are awarded for both one-year and six-month projects. Fellows receive US$40,000 for the full-year stipend and US$20,000 for the six-month fellowship.

An additional fellow specializing in either science or environmental journalism will be selected as a Cissy Patterson fellow, in honor of publisher Cissy Patterson.

Non-U.S. citizens are also eligible, but must be working full time for U.S. print publications, either in the United States or abroad.

The application deadline is Nov. 1.
