SMEX Technology and Human Rights Fellowship accepts applications [MENA]

Journalists, digital rights activists, data scientists, policy experts, economists, artists and social scientists based in the MENA region can apply for this fellowship.

SMEX, a Lebanese NGO that works to advance self-regulating information societies in the Middle East and North Africa, is accepting applications for the 2023 Fellowship on Technology and Human Rights.

The fellowship aims to bring new minds and voices to the digital rights field, raise innovative solutions to the issues that govern the usage of the internet, and expand research on emerging topics within digital rights in the MENA region.

The fellows will attend monthly meetings with mentors to receive support as they execute their work plans. Moreover, the fellows will receive training related to digital security and campaigning.

Ideal candidates will be able to demonstrate strong research, writing and speaking skills in English and Arabic as well as demonstrable experience in and commitment to protecting and promoting digital rights and internet freedoms.

The fellowship is paid, and part-time over 12 months, as fellows are expected to participate remotely to an average of 15 hours per week.

The deadline is Dec. 11.
