Small and medium-sized news organizations producing original news for local communities can apply for this new fund.
The Google News Initiative (GNI) is accepting applications for the Journalism Emergency Relief Fund.
The program aims to support the production of original journalism for local communities in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Funding amounts will range from the low thousands for small hyper-local newsrooms to low tens of thousands for larger newsrooms, with variations per region.
Eligible organizations have a digital presence, have been in operation for at least 12 months and employ two to 100 full-time journalists.
The deadline is April 29.
