If news is increasingly entertainment, BBC Earth's pairing with video game maker SEGA moves that idea along faster than Sonic the Hedgehog.

The venerable British news organization and the Japanese game maker are coming together to create a 4,000-square meter space that will " fuse nature with technology and offer an entirely new multi-sensory adventure," according to a press release.

The virtual experience will launch first in Japan and hit the U.S. in the next two years.

“The BBC is famous around the world for the quality of its natural history film-making and the BBC Earth brand is all about providing international audiences with new ways to experience and enjoy it," says Marcus Arthur, Managing Director, Global Brands for BBC Worldwide. "This is one of the most innovative ventures we have embarked upon to date. Harnessing SEGA’s imaginative approach to technology, our aim is to create an incredible sensory experience, a supercharged journey through nature that will inspire, educate and entertain in equal measure.”

It's an interesting way for a news organization to re-purpose content that is expensive to create.
