In anticipation of elections across Latin America and Spain this year, IJNet Español will hold a live chat for journalists on political reporting and verification.
If you want to learn how other journalists plan to cover the elections or get political fact-checking tips, join us Thursday, Aug. 20, at 13:00 GMT-3 (Buenos Aires time) and 11:00 GMT-5 (Mexico City time). You can check your local time here.
The chat will be held in Spanish. Enter the chat by clicking here on the day of the event.
Journalists across Latin America and Spain are preparing for a busy election season throughout the remainder of 2015: On Oct. 25, Argentina will decide who will succeed President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner as the country's next head of state. On September 6, Guatemala will hold general elections. Three months later, on December 6, Venezuelans will elect new members to the National Assembly. Across the Atlantic in Spain, voters will also head to the polls.
The chat will be moderated by Dulce Ramos, the editor-in-chief of Mexican political site Animal Político, and Pablo M. Fernández, the editorial innovation coordinator for Argentina's verification platform Chequeado. Ramos and Fernández will answer your questions and address a variety of topics, including:
- How you can develop original content based on election news
- How to verify the information candidates say during speeches
- How to deal with the constant flow of information given by pollsters
- How to integrate audiences into reporting
