IWMF African Great Lakes Reporting Initiative, Deadline Oct. 3, 2015

Women journalists with at least three years of experience and excellent English skills can apply for a reporting trip. The International Women's Media Foundation (IWMF) is leading five trips to Africa over the course of 2015 as part of its African Great Lakes Reporting Initiative. Ten women will be selected for the trip to report on conservation and sustainable agriculture in Rwanda/DRC, and another group of six journalists will cover themes of democracy and governance in Uganda. Alan R. and Barbara D. Finberg Fellowship, Deadline Oct. 8, 2015

Human Rights Watch (HRW) presents the Alan R. and Barbara D. Finberg Fellowship. Fellows will work with HRW in New York or Washington monitoring human rights developments worldwide, conducting on-site investigations, drafting reports, media outreach and more. The yearlong fellowships begin September 2016 and offer a US$55,000 salary with benefits. Global Energy Essay Contest, Deadline Oct. 12, 2015

Students and recent graduates with an interest in energy and sustainability can compete. Hosted by the Global Energy Initiative, the contest provides an opportunity for students around the world to engage in critical thinking and present their ideas and solutions to tackle key energy problems. This year's topic is "The Road to Paris 2015:  Vision, Reality and Solutions for a Meaningful Climate Agreement." Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows ProgramDeadline Oct. 15, 2015

Journalists worldwide who wish to learn more about democracy can apply for a fellowship. The Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellows Program, organized by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), aims to enable democratic practitioners, scholars and journalists to deepen their understanding of democracy and enhance their ability to promote democratic change. Fellows are expected to be in residence at the International Forum for Democratic Studies in Washington for five months in 2016-2017. Visiting Nieman Fellowship, Deadline Oct. 31, 2015

The Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard offers short-term, visiting fellowships for research projects designed to advance journalism. These projects can include topics like programming, design, financial strategies and more. The fellowships can last up to 12 weeks, depending on the scope of the projects. Fellows will have access to the resources at Harvard, including its scholars, research centers and libraries. Click here for more information.

Kiplinger Fellowship, Deadline Oct. 31, 2015

The Kiplinger Program in Public Affairs Journalism at Ohio State University offers short-term fellowships to help make better use of new online tools and channels. The 2016 fellowship will take place April 3 to 8. Fellows receive a full week of immersive training on digital tools and tactics from leading industry experts. Texas A&M University Student Media Grants Program, Deadline Oct. 31, 2015

The Conflict and Development Center at Texas A&M University organizes the Student Media Grants Program. The photojournalism award encourages students to use innovative methods to research and chronicle issues facing fragile and conflict-affected nations. Selected participants must commit to a three-month period engaging in international development issues through extension activities, internships or student research.
