College students majoring in journalism or related fields can apply for a US$5,000 scholarship.

The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) is accepting applications for its Bryan Monroe Memorial Scholarship Program. The scholarships will be awarded to two college students who aspire to eventually become newsroom managers, such as editors and news directors.

To apply, students must submit an essay, a brief statement, letters of recommendation from journalism professors, work samples and a transcript.

The scholarship program is named in honor of educator, longtime journalist and media trailblazer Bryan Monroe. He was the 16th president of NABJ.

Interested students must be current members of NABJ and have at least a 3.0 GPA.

The deadline is Feb. 28.
