Fund for Investigative Journalism grants Deadline: February 1, 2016

Investigative journalists can apply for grant funding from the Fund for Investigative Journalism for their next project. The average grant award is US$5,000; this money should be used toward out-of-pocket expenses like travel costs. Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute (RJI) fellowships Deadline: February 15, 2016

Each year, the Donald W. Reynolds Journalism Institute (RJI) at the University of Missouri invites media professionals to apply for its fellowship program. Residential and nonresidential fellowships are available, both lasting eight months, with respective monthly stipends of US$10,000 and US$2,500. This year, RJI is giving special consideration to projects aimed at increasing understanding of citizens’ information needs. For more information, click here.

UNESCO World Press Freedom Prize Deadline: February 15, 2016

Journalists, organizations and institutions can be nominated for this US$25,000 award, which recognizes a significant contribution to press freedom. Member states and organizations can nominate up to three candidates. The winner will be recognized this May in Helsinki, Finland at UNESCO’s World Press Freedom Day ceremony. Knight International Journalism Awards Deadline: February 17, 2016

Nominations are now open for ICFJ’s Knight International Journalism Awards, which honor pioneering, groundbreaking journalists and media innovators around the globe. In addition to being recognized at ICFJ’s annual awards dinner in Washington, D.C., each Knight Award winner will receive US$10,000 and a crystal trophy. For more information, click here.

Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award Deadline: February 26, 2016

The International Women’s Media Foundation (IWMF) is seeking nominations for its courage in photojournalism award named in honor of Anja Niedringhaus, an AP photographer who was killed in Afghanistan in April 2014. The award honors women photojournalists who report in dangerous environments and whose work reflects Niedringhaus’ courage and perseverance. Submissions in English are preferred, but applicants can use any language. Self-nominations are allowed. For more information, click here.

Global business journalism scholarships at Tsinghua University Deadline: February 28, 2016

English-speaking journalists worldwide can apply for the School of Journalism and Communication at Tsinghua University’s master’s program in global business journalism. The program features an international faculty, as well as a state-of-the-art media lab with 10 Bloomberg financial terminals for student use. Scholarships are available on a limited basis.
