Journalists and students can compete for this award.
The Public Ministry of Maranhão State (MPMA, in Portuguese) organizes the MPMA Journalism Award. This year's theme is "The Public Prosecutor's Office and the press in defense of human rights."
Possible topics include the environment; combating criminal organizations; childhood and youth; education; public assets; citizenship; consumer rights; crime; police activity; health; disability issues; senior citizens; agrarian conflicts; housing and urban planning; human rights and domestic violence.
Works must have been published or broadcast between Jan. 1 and Nov. 15, 2018. The categories are print journalism, television journalism, radiojournalism and webjournalism.
The winner in each category will receive BRL4,000. The best work among the four winners will receive an extra BRL4,000. Students will receive BRL500 in each category.
The deadline is Dec. 4.
