Early-career journalists with an interest in government reporting can apply for a fellowship.

States Newsroom is offering its Capital Reporting Fellowship. This is a summer program that places students and new journalists in States' newsrooms across the United States.

Fellows can expect a full-time summer schedule covering state policy in areas such as education, health care and criminal justice.

This program provides fellows with one-on-one mentoring with a national editor; weekly professional development sessions; portfolio improvement; and a year of coaching beyond the fellowship.

Fellows will be paid US$20 per hour for a 40-hour week. A housing stipend can also be negotiated.

Applicants must be enrolled as a junior or senior, or a recent graduate of an accredited institution of higher education.

The deadline is Oct. 31.
