Professional journalists based in California can apply for a fellowship.

The University of Southern California Center for Health Journalism is accepting applications for the 2024 California Health Equity Fellowship. The program is designed to support reporters in the Golden State as they pursue ambitious, enterprising projects on overlooked health and health equity issues.

Admitted fellows will decide what stories need to be told in their communities to improve health outcomes.

Fellows will receive one week of extensive training and five months of professional mentorship.

In addition, fellows will receive a US$2,000 to US$10,000 grant to defray reporting costs.

Freelance journalists and correspondents with projects focused on California are also eligible to apply.

The application deadline is Dec. 10.
