Photojournalist Michael Kamber of the New York Times recently published a blog post about conflict photojournalism for Lens, the photojournalism blog of the Times.

In his post, Kamber includes seven essential lessons every photojournalist should follow while covering conflict, using his experience in Somalia as the backdrop.

Lessons include: Keeping the essentials in your backpack; getting what you can when you can; preparing for the worst-case scenario; how to concentrate on the details that can tell the story; finding the quiet moments; and taking precautions while keeping a low profile in the most dangerous areas.

Kamber is currently working on a book about photojournalism and war photography.
