Cultural diversity festival 

Deadline: May 1, 2023 

The Yerevan International Film Festival Golden Apricot is seeking films that represent a diversity of ethnic groups, religions and nations. The event will take place from July 9-16. Competitive films must have had their first public screening after July 15, 2022. 

Environmental journalist contest

Deadline: May 1, 2023

Journalists who report on environmental issues can submit their work to the Society of Environmental Journalists’ annual recognition of excellence in environmental reporting award. Submissions not written in English, must include an English translation. Winners will receive cash prizes.

Photography competition

Deadline: May 1, 2023

The Allard Prize Photography Competition is accepting entries from professional and amateur photographers who cover human rights issues or anti-corruption efforts. Entries should focus on themes of courage and leadership in combating corruption. Each winning entrant will receive CAD1,000.

Science communication award

Deadline: May 5, 2023

Science journalists can now submit their work to the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and Schmidt Futures’ Eric and Wendy Schmidt Awards for Excellence in Science Communications. Reporters who have developed creative, original work that addresses issues and advances in science will receive cash prizes. 

Editor job opening 

Deadline: May 7, 2023

Bellingcat is hiring an editor to commission, edit and publish major stories and investigations. Applicants must have at least five years' editing experience. This position has an initial one-year contract with the possibility of extension. 

Photography grants

Deadline: May 15, 2023

Women and non-binary documentary photographers of any nationality can apply for Women Photograph, Leica USA, MPB and NIkon’s documentary grants. Grants can support either new or in-progress documentary projects.

Visual journalism contest

Deadline: May 23, 2023

The Visa pour I’Image - Perpignan Festival, in partnership with Canon, will recognize the best visual journalism around the world from Sep. 2-17 in Perpignan, France. Photojournalists and documentarians can enter this contest. Winners will receive EUR8,000. 

Environmental communication award

Deadline: May 31, 2023

Journalists, filmmakers and documentarians can compete for the BBVA Foundation’s Biophilia Award for Environmental Communication, which recognizes contributions in any aspect of environmental communication. Winners will receive a diploma, commemorative artwork and more. 

Freelance, local journalism contest 

Deadline: May 31, 2023

The Kurt Schork Memorial Fund, in partnership with the Thomson Reuters Foundation, is organizing the Kurt Schork Awards in International Journalism, which honor freelance journalists, local reporters and fixers in developing countries or nations in transition. Entries must be in English and published between June 1, 2022 and May 31, 2023.
