The Journalists and Writers Foundation (JWF) is hosting the JWF Media and Journalism Webinars 2023, which will emphasize experimental and hands-on learning through intensive workshops, training, mentorship and more. Journalism students and young professionals can register for these courses. Needs-based scholarships are also available for students.
Competition for war correspondents
Deadline: June 6, 2023
War correspondents can apply for the Bayeux Calvados-Normandy Award for War Correspondents, sponsored by the Calvados General Council, the town of Bayeux, France and others. This competition honors coverage of conflict situations or news events relating to the fight for freedom and democracy. The winner will receive a cash prize.

Grants for media projects
Deadline: June 7, 2023
The National Endowment for Democracy is seeking proposals for projects that advance democratic goals and strengthen democratic institutions. Independent media organizations, civic groups and associations are eligible to apply for funding.
Editor job opening
Deadline: June 11, 2023
Journalists with a passion for social media and an interest in climate change can apply for Climate Home News’ audience engagement editor position. The editor will develop, implement, monitor and improve social media strategies to increase the outlet’s reach and impact. Applicants must have at least three years of experience managing social media accounts for organizations and media.
Science fellowship
Deadline: June 16, 2023
The European Geosciences Union is accepting applications for the 12th edition of its Science Journalism Fellowship competition. Journalists interested in covering research of Earth, planetary or space sciences will have the opportunity to follow geoscientists on location and develop an in-depth understanding of their research questions, approaches and more. Fellows will receive up to EUR5,000 to cover project-related expenses.
Ocean reporting fellowship
Deadline: June 18, 2023
Journalists with a proven track record of environmental investigations can apply for the Pulitzer Center’s Ocean Reporting Network Fellowship. Fellows will work on individual and collaborative reporting projects to investigate who’s driving the degradation of marine environments and more.
Photojournalism grant
Deadline: June 30, 2023
The Pulitzer Center and Diversify Photo have launched the Eyewitness Photojournalism Grant, which aims to support underreported stories told by freelance photojournalists in their communities. Grantees will receive funding and mentorship.
Video competition
Deadline: June 30, 2023
Filmmakers ages 25 and younger are invited to submit films on migration, diversity, social inclusion and prevention of xenophobia to the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations and the International Organization for Migration’s PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival. Entries must be less than 5 minutes long, include English subtitles and be produced after Jan. 1, 2020.
