Science journalism competition

Deadline: August 1, 2024 

Science journalists are eligible to apply for The Kavli Foundation’s AAAS Kavli Science Journalism Awards, which recognize outstanding reporting for a general audience. Entries must have been published between July 16, 2023 through July 15, 2024. Winners will receive cash prizes. 

Media business forum

Deadline: August 1, 2024

The Stockholm School of Economics in Riga is seeking media professionals, journalists, editors, marketing specialists and more for the Reinventing Media Business Forum, which brings the media business community together to provide the latest professional knowledge. Scholarships are available.

Rhodes Scholarship

Deadline: August 1, 2024 

Students can apply now for the Rhodes Scholarship to study at the University of Oxford in England. Scholarships are intended for students with a bachelor’s degree, fluency in English and committed to promoting international understanding and peace. 

AI fellowships

Deadline: August 10, 2024

The Pulitzer Center is organizing the AI Accountability Fellowships, which seek to support journalists working on stories that examine governments’ uses of surveillance technologies to guide decisions in policing, medicine and more. The program is remote and will begin in September. 

Press freedom competition

Deadline: August 12, 2024

Journalists who have a strong commitment to press freedom and independent information can apply now for Free Press Unlimited’s Free Press Awards. Prizes include a media scholarship for the newcomer of the year and a cash prize for the most resilient journalist. 

Business journalism seminars

Deadline: August 26, 2024

The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School is organizing the Wharton Seminars for Business Journalists, which aim to help reporters improve their reporting skills and gain insights into key business and economic issues. Funding opportunities to attend this event are available.

Humanitarian project grants

Deadline: August 31, 2024

Photographers, videographers and content creators can apply now for Action Against Hunger’s grant, which is intended to be a place for exploration of new narrative and iconographic processes. The winner will receive EUR10,000 to carry out their proposed project.

Youth photojournalism contest

Deadline: August 31, 2024

The Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant aims to help photographers under 24 and those enrolled as full-time photography students undertake selected projects and raise their international profiles. Each winner will receive GBP10,000, Canon photo equipment and more.
