Journalists based in the United States are eligible for travel grants up to US$1,500.

The Neal Peirce Foundation is offering grants to support journalists who are covering under-told stories about ways to make cities and their metro regions work better for all people. In honor of American journalist Neal Peirce, the foundation was established to support journalism on city solutions.

Grants will cover travel expenses for on-the-ground reporting. Journalists are expected to travel within three months of receiving the award and their stories should be submitted to the pitched outlet within three months after travel.

Freelance journalists and photographers are also eligible to apply.

To apply, journalists must submit a short pitch of their stories and an outline of their reporting plans. Stories highlighting communities underrepresented in today’s news media are preferred.

The deadline is Oct. 16.
