Early-career journalists in the United States from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups can apply for a yearlong fellowship.

STAT is offering the Sharon Begley-Science Reporting Fellowship, a program that prepares journalists for a successful career in science journalism.

The fellowship will run mid-July 2024 through mid-July 2025. The successful fellow will work at STAT’s Boston office, alongside its team of experienced science and health reporters and editors, to report and write articles for STAT.

The fellow will be paid $75,000 and receive health insurance. In addition, the fellow will receive 10 days of vacation and get standard holidays off.

The fellowship is named in honor of Sharon Begley, an award-winning science writer for STAT, who died in January 2021 at 64, from complications of lung cancer.

The deadline is April 26.
