Short story award for African writers [Africa]

African writers residing in Africa or elsewhere can submit entries for an award.

The AKO Caine Prize for African Writing, a short story award competition, is accepting submissions. The prize encourages and highlights the richness and diversity of African writing.

Short stories published between Feb. 1, 2018 and Jan. 25, 2023 are eligible for submission. The stories must be published in English.

Short stories must be submitted by a publisher - including publishers of physical and digital literary journals, magazines or literature-oriented websites. Self-published and unpublished works are not eligible.

The winner is awarded a cash prize of GBP10,000 and the other four shortlisted writers will receive GBP500 each.

The deadline for submissions is Jan. 26, 2023.
