Scholarships available for course on decolonizing journalism [Worldwide]

Posted on May 1, 2024 in Specialized Topics

Black, Indigenous and other people of color (BIPOC) are eligible for scholarships to participate in an online course.

The University of Toronto's School of Continuing Studies is offering the course “Decolonizing Journalism.” This course will provide theory, discussion and implementation strategies to decolonize traditional practices of journalism, such as the Eurocentric models of newsgathering.

Decolonization will be examined through four lenses: the Indigenous experience, early Black settlement, the Francophone space and the Global South. Each area will be taught by leading journalists and journalism academics in Canada.

The course fee is CAD799 (US$579). Journalists for Human Rights will provide scholarships for successful BIPOC applicants.

The spring/summer course will run May 6 to July 28.
