Open the Knowledge Journalism Awards seek entries [Africa]

Journalists in Africa can enter a competition and win cash prizes.

The Wikimedia Foundation is accepting entries for the Open the Knowledge Journalism Awards. The competition celebrates the contributions of journalists in Africa who prioritize diversity, equity and inclusion in their reporting.

The awards recognize the essential role journalists play in creating well-researched articles that volunteer editors can use as source materials to develop content on Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.

Articles published between Jan. 1, 2022 to June 23, 2023 are eligible for submission.

Categories cover topics on culture, sports, health, climate change, women, human rights, and more.

The first-place winner will receive US$2,000 and the second-place winner US$1,500.

The deadline is June 30.
