Posted on Aug 1, 2021 in Specialized Topics

Environmental and political journalists in the United States and Canada can apply for this fellowship.

The National Press Foundation (NPF), with support from the David and Lucile Packard Foundation, is offering an all-expense paid fellowship for 20 journalists to take a deeper look at the economic, climate and conservation issues posed by biomass.

Fellows will hear from industry, government and environmental experts. Topics will include bioenergy standards, “carbon ledgers” and the arcana of accounting for carbon emissions, and the effects of regulatory changes on jobs, forestry and the economy of the U.S. Southern states.

Topics will also cover how the Trump administration treated biomass in the nation’s sustainability goals and how the Biden administration will, and how global regulators at the COP26 conference will treat biomass.

The fellowship will be held Oct. 10 to 13 in North Carolina or online if the pandemic worsens.

The fellowship covers airfare, ground transportation, accommodation and meals.

The application deadline is Aug. 27.
