Journalists and media working in Guatemala or abroad on topics related to Guatemala can apply.

The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), in partnership with the recently created Central American Network of Journalists, is announcing a new initiative to provide emergency assistance to journalists covering the democratic crisis in Guatemala.

To apply, candidates must submit a reporting proposal focused on topics such as the Guatemalan political elite and its actions against the peaceful transition of power, the weaponization of the judicial system, attacks on journalists, judges, and activists, among others. The final piece must be written in Spanish.

Support ranging from US$1,000 to US$5,000 will be provided to the top proposals. These grants will cover journalists' salaries and expenses during their work. Selected candidates must commit to attending a series of workshops throughout the project, and their stories must be published by Dec. 15.

The deadline is Aug. 11.
