News organizations in Europe can submit an innovative project idea and compete for funding.
The Google News Initiative (GNI) is offering the GNI Innovation Challenge, a global program that empowers news organizations from around the world to demonstrate new thinking in digital journalism.
The challenge is intended for news organizations with an editorial staff of 50 or fewer full-time journalists, including freelancers.
News organizations must submit projects focused on, but not limited to, ways to increase reader engagement and/or reader revenue; developing and diversifying business models; new methods of distribution; and combating misinformation.
Google will fund up to EUR150,000 for selected projects.
The deadline is May 31.
